Befriending and Wellbeing

Good Neighbours Newcastle

Good Neighbours Newcastle is a volunteer-delivered service that can help you live independently whilst increasing your connections with your local community and other support services available to you.

The service is designed to support people who do not, or are unable to, leave their house regularly, those who are socially isolated, as well as those with physical or mental health conditions or disabilities that make it difficult to live independently.

Good Neighbours Newcastle is delivered by a partnership of organisations including Volunteering Matters, St Martin’s Centre, and Search Newcastle.

Are you interested in volunteering as a Good Neighbour?

It’s a flexible and meaningful way to help the most isolated people in Newcastle stay healthy and connected. Volunteers (or Good Neighbours) complete one-off tasks or short-term activities, providing support where it is needed most.

In Good Company

Are you looking for some companionship in a friendly environment?

We’d love to see you at our friendly, relaxed, social group which takes place in the Centre every Wednesday afternoon at 1.30pm.

Receive a warm welcome and a chance to be around others. Get involved as much as you like or simply have a cup of tea and a chat.

We try out a different activity each week and sometimes have short trips out and about.

Centre Activities and Groups

Here at St Martin’s Centre, we aim to provide a wide and varied programme of activities and groups which meet a wide range of needs and interests, and all at affordable prices.

Whether it be an art or craft group or a physical activity you are looking for – you will find something to suit you on our Centre Guide – if not then let us know as we are always looking out for new ideas!

What’s On Guide

Our Centre is a welcoming and friendly place, but we understand that it can be difficult for some people to take that first step to visit us. Coming somewhere new and joining in a group can sometimes seem a bit daunting.

If this sounds like you then we might be able to offer you some support so that it feels a bit easier to join with us.

Get in touch with our dedicated co-ordinator to find out more!

If you have any questions or would like to know more about anything mentioned above, please contact Yvonne on 0191 2764002 or email yvonne@stmartinscentre.org.uk

What our members have to say

Coming to the group today – it felt like climbing a mountain – but with some help and support it’s been great meeting new people and chatting.

Thank you for visiting my Mam – your visits really cheer her up. It gives her someone other than me to chat to.

I really enjoy our chats. We talk about all kinds of things. I get very anxious on my own and my tummy tenses up. But it helps when we chat, and I have some company.
